Sir Alick & the Phraser b/w Vic Serf & the Villains

More from the Homosexuals file.

Black Noise #5 Sir Alick & the Phraser, In Search of the Perfect Baby 7″

from the homosexuals discography

Bruno playing everything himself at Surrey Sound from the same era as L.Voag’s “Move” 7″ and the George Harrasment tracks. B-side has help on bass from Chris Grey. Reissued twice more: first in green sleeve with silk-screened plastic outer bag as Sir Alick , and then in a red sleeve as The Homosexuals (with the identical disc and labels, two additional sleeve-designs –also by Suzy)

Information is pretty scant beside what the hyped to death guys have to say. Recorded/released in 1980; Max, as usual, has some amazing high quality scans of the album art and 7″.

SIDE A In Search of the Perfect Baby
I think this was the first Homosexuals side-project thing I ever heard; I was immediately hooked. This is like two songs in one, all droney and quasi-psych for about three minutes until that patent Homosexuals sound finally leaks in and takes over for the remainder.

SIDE B Nursery Chimes
A much more standard sounding track for that era of homosexuality; weird in it’s own way though - lyrically.

Anyway, pretty accessible and readily available (for less than 25USD what kind of person is without this?) stuff compared to what Jim had in store for the next couple of years, such as (the real treasure of this post)

Vic Serf and the Villains cover

It’s War Boys £6 Vic Serf & The Villans, Rok Y Roll cassette.

Russian Children’s Songs

This is a case where trolling Russian FTPs at random pays off. Here are a few choice tracks from Moi Lyubimye Pesni (which I assume translates something like “More Children’s Songs”):

Rizhii, Rizhii, Konopatii
Dva Veselih Gusia
“Animated” music, complete with bizarre cut-in sound effects…

Pesenka Krasnoi Shapochki
Pesenka Mamontenka
Toddler funk?

Pesenka o Lete
Kolibel’naia Medvedici
Moi Lyubimye Pesni also has a slightly creepy “1001 Strings Over Belarus” side to it.

Spiat Utsalie Igrushki
Bol’shoi Loshadinii Sekret
Two beautifully played and not at all weird songs towards the end of the disc – the latter featuring gorgeous Birkin/Gainsbourg-style harmonies between the mysterious adult vocalists.

Roscoe Holcomb, Nimrod Workman

Roscoe shouldn’t be a suprise to anyone. Nimrod will split your fucking wig.

(oh and I added a little bit of Apache magic, so now there is no need to fear the m4a)

Johnny Thunders & The Heartbreakers, Do You Love Me?

Johnny Thunders is probably most fondly remembered as “that guy from the New York Dolls” even though he recorded most of his catalog post-Dolls. Here’s a little dance number. Someday I want hair like this…

Gram Parsons

A couple from Gram; such an amazing musician. I really should do a big’ole write up one day covering his whole (short) career.
