I had something a lot more elaborate ready to go but wordpress ate my words ruthlessly, so here it is again.
Yeah, so, Loudon Wainwright actually used to be awesome, in a Roy-Harper-at-his-best (I mean “I Hate The White Man,” not Stormcock) sort of way. Two from his appropriately named 1970 Album 1: “Black Uncle Remus,” “Bruno’s Place”
& on exactly the same note, a BDK demo w/ Kane & Kool G Rap on “Raw.” Needs no introduction; you know they’re always good for it.
In my mind, Jeffrey Lewis & any self-proclaimed “Anti-Folk”er bears a lot of stigma but I’ve got love for 1000 of the guy’s songs. His 2003 album It’s The Ones Who’ve Cracked That The Light Shines Through is by far his most solid & his newest w/ his brother Jack (who has actually appeared on all the records) indicates that he’s getting more competent, better faster stronger. Here’s two from The Last Time I Did Acid I Went Insane & his debut Indie Rock Fortune Cookie, respectively. “Another Girl,” “Three Quarter Moon”
& finally, if you haven’t heard Marcos Valle’s Garra, you should probably do something about that. “Garra,” “Jesus Meu Rei”
